ASML Posts a Record Quarter as AI Demand Outruns Its Planned Supply
ASML reported record third-quarter sales of 11.7 billion euros and raised its full-year forecast, warning that the machines it plans to build in 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand driven by artificial intelligence.
ASML reported record third-quarter sales of 11.7 billion euros and net income of five billion euros, with a gross margin of 57.5 per cent, and raised its full-year sales forecast to between 44 and 45 billion euros.
ASML makes the lithography machines that advanced chips depend on. Its chief executive, Christophe Fouquet, said customers have increased their demand forecasts because of their investment plans for artificial intelligence, with some customers already asking about orders for 2029 and 2030.
The company also gave a clear warning alongside the record numbers: the machines it currently plans to build in 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand, and it is studying a bigger expansion of capacity for 2028.
