Dodgers Meet Brewers in NLCS After Both Close Out Their Division Series
The National League Championship Series is set, with the Dodgers heading to Milwaukee to face the Brewers in Game One on Sunday after both clubs finished their series three games to one.
The National League Championship Series is now set. The Dodgers closed out Atlanta four to one in Game Four on Wednesday night, winning the series three games to one.
Andy Pages broke the game open with a two-run single in the seventh, and Max Muncy's solo homer in the ninth was his nineteenth postseason home run as a Dodger, a franchise record. It is their third straight trip to the NLCS, and they are chasing the first National League three-peat of the World Series.
The Brewers finished off the Padres three to one on the road on Wednesday, so it is Dodgers at Brewers, with Game One on Sunday in Milwaukee.
There was also news that could reshape next season. Major League Baseball has sent all thirty teams a thirty-four-page memo preparing for a possible lockout, first reported by The Athletic's Evan Drellich and confirmed by other outlets. With the current labor deal expiring in December, the memo tells clubs to scrub player images and videos from team websites, cut off business with players on forty-man rosters, and even stop contact like holiday cards after early December. Players would be free to play winter ball and in Japan. The memo went out last week.
The two storylines now run side by side: a championship series between Los Angeles and Milwaukee opening on Sunday, and a labor dispute that clubs are already preparing for once the current deal expires in December. For the Dodgers, the decisive moments in the clincher were Pages' two-run single in the seventh inning and Muncy's record-setting solo homer in the ninth.
